Using the power spectrum analysis technique we prove the characteristic of suppressing chatter in STUVT which was found by Janet Devine(1979)and use the perpendicular testing design to determain the affecting degrees of the main parameters for reducing the effect. This paper gives the affecting regularities on reducing indexr r of some parameters
including the turning speed v

the ultrasonic vibration amplitude of the tool tip A and their collocation (v

×A).These results are verified by the reducing chatter theory of STUVT which was advanced by authors in literatures
