our object of study is a novel system for measuring the volume of alarge area object.This measuring system is based on the principle of optical triangulation toobtain distance information .Its position sensor is linear CCD
its display and control centreis microcomputer. This instrument can measure the object rapidly with reaI time displayingand out putting the results. The imaging characteristics of optic system is discussed in detialand the design of hardware and software for the control system is given. The measuring re.sults show that operation of the system is normal
and the accuracy of measurement is within 2%. The measuring error is also analyzed mathemaically at the end of the paper.
