The soft elastic rolling contact is on the elastohydrodynamic lubrication (EHL) of rollers with a elastic layer. It is concerned with the interaction between the deformation of the soft elastomer covering on the roller and fluid pressure. Because the layer is easily deformable
and there is an engagement between the two rollers
the contact is one of the most difficult areas to model successfully using common methods. The hydrodynamic equation is transformed into a form of boundary integral equation and surface distortion is obtained from boundary integral equations in order to achieve the simultaneous iterative solution of the governing equations. The contact behaviour is investigated in this paper by means of boundary element method. The results highlight the main roller train design and operating parameters for the contact
and show that the method is efficient for such layered problems.
